I was curious how many climbers combined both disciplines before Olympics introduced the combined format.

Data are from 1999, when the first boulder world cup was organized (lead world cups were happening from 1989).

Sport Climbing was officially proposed as a new sport for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in 2015^[1] and on August 3, 2016^[2] was formally announced as a medal sport. Qualifying events were held in 2019, Asian qualifier was cancelled due to COVID (climbers were selected from Combined World Championships 2019) and Australian and African qualifiers were held in the late 2020^[3].

Sport Climbing was confirmed as medal sport for Paris 2024 in December 2020^[4]. Qualifying events were held from August 2023 to June 2024[5].
